'We've got better players': Georgia Bulldogs begin title defense with easy victory over Oregon Ducks

ATLANTA - - Defending public top dog Georgia could have lost 15 players to the NFL draft, yet entirely the No. 3 Bulldogs looked fine and dandy in the primary round of their title guard, impacting No. 11 Oregon 49-3 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday.

Indeed, even in the wake of losing five guarded players in the primary round, including No. 1 pick Travon Walker, Georgia's guard was excessively quick and physical for the Ducks.

In the wake of having lost the most players at any point drafted from one school in NFL draft history, Georgia seemed as though it will in any case be back in the chase after a CFP compartment for the third time in Smart's seven seasons.

Be that as it may, Smart realizes his young group actually has quite far to go to get back there, even after its unbalanced triumph in the opener.

"Assumptions are most certainly currently under tight restraints," Smart said. "You don't need to stress over that."

Georgia's offense, which assumed a supporting role to its unrivaled guard last season, was substantially more unstable against the Ducks. Quarterback Stetson Bennett, a previous stroll on who drove the Bulldogs to their first public title in quite a while, finished 25 of 31 passes for a vocation high 368 yards with two scores.

With 21 seconds left in the primary half, Bennett turned away from four Oregon safeguards and some way or another saw Ladd McConkey, who was completely open in the end zone for a 4-yard score that gave Georgia a 28-3 lead at the half.

In the wake of beginning last season as Georgia's No. 3 quarterback and being pushed into the setup solely after JT Daniels was harmed, Bennett is the undisputed starter this year.

"I don't think Stetson truly gets impacted by anything I do, you do or anyone does," Smart said. "Stetson lives in his own reality, and he does a truly great job of shutting out all the commotion. The person had a flip telephone, OK, in 2021. He doesn't actually get into all that.

"I believe that is what his sort of edge is, and he made a few plays that he didn't go with the ideal choices on today, and he knows those. He knows his errors. He must be brilliant. He does things that perhaps we don't request that he do. Yet, he made a few plays with his feet, and I think you take the great, and I won't call it terrible, however you take the great with his unfortunate choices."

Georgia scored scores on every one of its initial seven belongings, changed over its initial nine third-down plays and went 6-for-6 in the red zone. The Bulldogs didn't dropkick until right off the bat in the final quarter, when rookie Brett Thorson blast a 53-yarder.

The Ducks couldn't gather quite a bit of anything against Georgia's reconstructed safeguard. Oregon had 313 yards of offense, averaging 4.6 yards per play contrasted with the Bulldogs' 9.2. Georgia had two captures and halted the Ducks on an objective line stand at the 3-yard line with 1:22 left to play.

"We would rather not be the pursued," said security Christopher Smith, who had one of Georgia's two block attempts. "We need to chase."

Oregon was playing its most memorable game under new mentor Dan Lanning, who was the Bulldogs' guarded organizer in 2021. It was a disheartening presentation for Lanning, who is a first-time lead trainer.

"He will do a truly great job at Oregon," Smart said. "He's tireless. They'll return from this and he realizes we have better players. He won't ever say that, however he realizes we have better players."
